Highly recommended. My wife and I both agree the Brita is the better of the two. I have both a PUR filter on my faucet and 2 Brita Pitchers. Ignore the bits of charcoal that float up, they never get through, and it seems it is just a part of the fine charcoal filter package. Not sure why, the PUR seems to be designed with a more in depth filter, but the Brita water has a distinctive neutral taste that you expect from water. I have a good source from a deep well, but Iron Bacteria is a problem, and the Brita does a great job of filtering any odd taste out. They do last the advertised time, and it seems a lot better way to do it, than to have mega piles of empty plastic bottles, and you don't have to worry about plastic chemical leaching into the water you're drinking. Cost effective solution.
Sure, they work great. Why replace a trusty water filter with another water filter. These replacement filters are not necessary at all. According to the instructions, these filters should be replaced after 2 months or 40 gallons. This could explain the longevity of the filter. You wouldn't replace a trusty old dog with a replacement dog, would you.
But if your filter is still doing the job, there is no need to replace it.
So it could be argued that they deserve a 5 star rating.
But this is to be expected after nearly five years of daily use.
But I've been using the same filter for nearly 5 years, and have filtered probably more than a thousand gallons of water through it, without any problems.
It makes no sense.After nearly five years of reliability, I'll admit that my water is now slightly browner once it's been filtered.
The problem is, they work so well that there is rarely ever any good reason to replace them.
If your filter is lost or stolen, then I would recommend getting a replacement filter.
The water still tastes great.note: I usually add a few drops of freshly squeezed lemon juice to each batch of water before it runs through the filter.

Tap water tastes better after filtering it, I guess. I heard something about using water filters to lower the alcohol volume of vodka, though I'm personally not interested in verifying.
These remove any trace of odd flavor from my tap water. My only gripe is that sometimes carbon from the filter gets into the water. You can still drink it, it just has little black bits in it.
This was a good find. its cost less than the replacement filters by GE, and also fits the GE Jug.
